Depending on the price of the item, that is a 12-18% fee they are getting off the item plus shipping price. Many buyers and sellers are not happy with the fact that we are charged % fees for shipping costs, since we do not profit off this, the USPS does! Here is a simple example of how it works with a lower cost item: Item sells for $4 + $4 shipping. Paypal gets $0.30 + 8 (.0029)=$0.53 and Ebay fees are $8 (.09) = $0.72. So the buyer must give a total of $1.25 to Paypal/Ebay, 17% of the item price and shipping. Shipping fees go to USPS, so the seller is left with $4.00 -$1.25 (Paypal/Ebay fees)-$0.10 packaging cost = $2.65 profit.
